Earlier
this year, I had the opportunity to drive the Chevy Volt from North
Miami to the Florida Keys (Marathon). It was a great experience to get
to know the 2011 Chevy Volt. Overall, I felt that it was a great car
for those wanting to have the option of driving their electric vehicle
for longer trips without having to charge the battery. The gas option on
the Volt is definitely a win for a lot of people. There are also drivers
with a short commute to and from work every day, that could conceivably
never have to use gas on those commutes. I feel that the Chevy Volt
satisfies the needs of many drivers in this market looking for an
alternative solution.

Recently, we had the opportunity to test drive the
2012 Chevy Volt. Changes to the Volt have primarily been in the
interior features. The keyless access is a new standard option. The Bose
audio system that was a standard feature on the 2011 model is now an
available option. The same goes for the navigation system that was
standard in 2011. The OnStar service came with 5 years of service with
Directions & Connections Plan on the 2011 model, while the 2012 model
comes with a standard 3 years service. The quiet, on-board 1.4L
generator/engine went from being listed as 80hp to 83hp.
The price tag has also changed for the 2012 model
year. The 2011 model had an MSRP of $40,280, while the 2012 model has an
MSRP of $39,645. These prices do not include the Federal Tax Savings
which can range between $0 and $7,500.
